ADMINISTRATION MINISTRIES

Pastoral Council
The Holy Spirit Pastoral Council is a consultative group of parishioners who work with the pastor and pastoral team in all areas of parish life. Members connect with parish committees to ensure the current needs of the parish are identified and addressed. In addition, the council provides leadership for the parish and a vision for the future. Parish Representative to Bowling Green Deanery
Parishioner is appointed to represent Holy Spirit Parish and provide communication between the parish and the Bowling Green Deanery Council, a diocesan consultative body composed of representatives from the eight parishes in area. Each deanery council has a representative on the Diocesan Pastoral Council. Michele Thomas 842-7766.


Building/Maintenance Committee
Oversees concerns, problems and repairs for all the buildings connected to the parish property. Coordinates with contractors, businesses and volunteers who have expertise in the areas of repairs and maintenance. Parish volunteers are needed for yard work, gardening and small projects. Finance Committee

Long Range Planning Committee
The Long-Range Planning Committee is appointed by the pastor and pastoral council to oversee the Long-Range Plan for the parish. Contact John Deeb, pastoral council liaison, at 782-2633, or Paul Schnoes , 842-2633, Don Dobernic, 781-4805.

Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee invites Holy Spirit Church members to acknowledge the bounty and grace of God in a spirit of thanksgiving. Stewardship Ministers are ambassadors for the church and stewardship, providing information to parishioners about ministries available and encouraging parishioners to share their time, talent and treasure with the church. Transforming Our Church Team

Transforming Our Church is a team of people charged with the task of studying how Holy Spirit Church can best accomplish our Parish Mission statement. This includes looking at our spatial & liturgical needs, questions of cultural diversity in our community, issues in architecture, environment and art, and capital projects. Capital Campaign Committee

Coordinates the parish campaign to raise funds for future new and expanded parish campus. Communicates the vision, organizes and coordinates activities with parish teams and Kirby Smith Associates, integrates the annual stewardship appeal, processes the Faith Promise Cards. Office Workers

Come have a cup of coffee or a soft drink and help keep the parish going! Volunteer weekly, monthly, or occasionally: a morning, an afternoon or an hour! Stuff bulletins, file, prepare mailings, copy, work on the computer, serve as receptionist and answer telephones, etc. Contact Ivana Walker, parish administrator, 842-7777.






CATECHESIS & EVANGELIZATION MINISTRIES

Catechetical Leadership Committee
Holy Spirit parish provides catechetical programs for parishioners of all ages and stages of life—children, youth, and adults. These programs provide participants with the opportunity to grow spiritually, deepen their faith and strengthen their relationship with God. Representatives from all parish catechetical programs and age groups in the parish meet eight times a year to identify needs, set goals and coordinate the lifelong catechesis in the parish. Catechist Formation is provided thought the year so catechists and potential catechists and aides may be prepared for this important ministry and meet the requirements for Catechist Certification by the diocese of Owensboro.

Whole Community Catechesis is a team approach to providing life long catechesis for all ages, focusing on the relationship between liturgy and catechesis as well as households, school, parish life and community outreach. Small faith sharing groups and intergenerational catechesis assemblies are an important dimension of Whole Community Catechesis.


ADULT CATECHESIS & SPIRITUALITY

Adult Catechesis and Spirituality Team
Identifies needs, sets goals, and plans programs, seminars, workshops, courses, and retreats, frequently in collaboration with other parish groups/committees, to reach out and foster personal faith and understanding of Catholic tradition for adults of all ages and stages of life. Team is composed of catechists/facilitators, parents, and adults who have ideas and interest in promoting adult faith formation, including scripture groups, small faith communities, Koinonia, parish missions, interfaith or ecumenical programs. Koinonia
Koinonia is a Christian weekend retreat for adults based on “the Good News” fellowship, participation and community. It is led and coordinated by a team of parishioners and pastoral ministers. Participants go home at night. Christian Initiation of Adults
This is the process used by the Church to welcome and catechize those who wish to learn more about the Catholic way of life and those who seek to become Catholic. Inquiry sessions are held every Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Questions of life, faith, and Catholic prayer and practice are discussed and shared with the members of the parish and pastoral team. Re-Membering Church
Parishioners and pastoral team members meet with persons who may be returning to the Church and sacraments to provide an opportunity to discuss misunderstandings, hurts, questions, and to rediscover the Catholic faith. Small Faith Communities
Some meet in the fall and during Lent; some meet monthly, some in homes and others at the parish. Opportunity to join new groups each fall and Lent. Resource materials and training are provided. Contact Lori Lewis, pastoral associate, 842-7777.

Monday Morning “Sharing Sunday Scriptures” Group
Group meets from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Led by Carolyn Basehart 782-0277.


Women’s Book Discussion Group
Meets on Tuesdays twice a month (weekly during lent) from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. for lunch, discussion and prayer. Books relating to women in scripture, church and society are chosen by the group. Leadership shared by group. Contact Ellen Hayden, 842-8873 or Sheila Hardcastle 782-1303.



Wednesday Morning Moms Bible Study
Group meets 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. during school year and is led by Alanna McAllister, 781-0966. Participants choose book. Childcare is provided.


Wednesday Morning Catholic Study Group
Women meet twice a month 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon during school year. Participants choose topic/book, and is led by Mary Lou Kirby 901-0106.

Thursday Morning Bible Study/Sharing Group
Meets weekly after the 8:00 a.m. Mass in the library. Members of the group choose the book of the Bible and the study guide used for sharing and discussion. Led by Jane Beraun 782-6189.

Library
The library is open when the Parish Center is open. Books, DVD’s cassette tapes, and videos (for adults and children) are available on the following subjects: scripture, theology, spirituality, prayer, liturgy, family life, marriage, parenting, saints, Catholic beliefs, Christian psychology, church history, women, youth ministry, catechesis, religious novels, morality, pastoral care, and ministry. Books and Religious Articles Sale
In addition to the religious articles available during office hours, several times throughout year (especially for Advent/Christmas and Spring) bibles, children’s books and religious articles are available for sale on Sundays after Mass. Want to help? Contact Ivana Walker 842-7777.


CHILDREN’S CATECHESIS
(YOUNG CHILD AGES 3, 4, 5; GRADES 1-6 INCLUDING HOME CATECHESIS , FIRST SACRAMENTS, VBS.)


Childcare Ministry
Childcare is provided in the nursery located in the parish center during the 9:30 am Mass and, as needed during the Sunday morning catechetical/catechumenate sessions. Parents who use the nursery are expected to volunteer every other month. Childcare is also available during week for special meetings or programs and for special liturgies and events. Parents Day Out
This program is for children 6 months through 4 years is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The children, play, socialize and learn under caring supervision. For additional information, contact Alanna McAllister, director, 781-0966.

Young Children's (ages 3, 4, and 5) Catechesis/Ministry
Small group sessions led by catechists and aides meet during the 9:30 a.m. Mass for children ages three, four, and five (by Oct. 1). Program materials are age appropriate and follow the liturgical year as they follow the Sunday readings and learn about Jesus’ life and belonging to Church. Registration is required. Children’s Catechesis/Ministry Grades 1-6
Small group sessions for children grades 1-6 meet on Wednesdays 6:00-7:15 p.m. and Sundays 11:00-12:15 noon—September until mid-May. Catechists support parents by helping children grow in faith and relationship with God and the Church through study and discussion of the Sunday scriptures, prayer, liturgies, service activities. Family Home Catechesis
Parents may choose to be catechists at home. Materials and support are provided; and several family group activities are offered during the year, as well as an annual pastoral interview. Contact Madeline Loiacono, coordinator of children’s ministry 842-7777.

Vacation Bible School
Many parent and teen volunteers help make our annual VBS (held in June) a fun and faith-filled experience for all! Crafts, stories, prayer, drama, games, music, singing, food and liturgy create memories and church community. For dates and times, or to volunteer contact Madeline Loiacono, coordinator of children’s ministry 842-7777.

First Sacraments Team (Reconciliation and Eucharist for Children) Parents, catechists, and the parish community are involved in preparing the children for the sacraments. A team helps plan and coordinate the parish celebrations, family retreats, and parent meetings. Contact Madeline Loiacono, coordinator of children’s ministry 842-7777.

Christian Initiation of Children/Youth
Special inquiry sessions for uncatechized children and youth and their parents are held as needed. Families are invited to join peers in parish activities/programs. Catechists and sponsors guide the process of initiation and rites; celebrations are coordinated with the rites for adults preparing for initiation and youth preparing for confirmation or Eucharist. YOUTH MINISTRY  

Junior High Catechesis and Ministry
Youth meet on Sundays from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. or Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:15 p.m. from August to mid-May; catechists lead small groups of 7th and 8th grade students in mini-courses chosen by students. Junior High Ministry activities are held for all junior high youth in the parish throughout the year; socials, services activities, retreats, etc. are planned and coordinated by Junior High Ministry Team, composed of parents and youth from the catechetical program and St. Joseph School. Confirmation
Parents, sponsors, catechists and the parish community support the parish youth preparing for confirmation. Youth who are in the eighth grade or older, active in the parish, attending mass and the catechetical program, or attending St. Joseph School, are invited to complete their initiation and prepare for the sacrament of confirmation. Preparation includes an interview, parish celebrations and rites, two retreats, confirmation course, service and activities with a sponsor. Preparation begins in Grade 7. Confirmation Team/Sponsors
Parishioners are invited to share their faith with the youth of the parish seeking to complete their initiation as Catholics. A ministry team meeting monthly, plans the parish preparation according to diocesan guidelines. Each youth chooses a sponsor representing the parish community of faith who will be a friend/mentor to the candidate and share their experience of being Catholic. High School Youth Ministry
High school students are invited to participate in the Youth Group which meets every Sunday evening at 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Youth Room. Social, spiritual, and catechetical programs are planned and coordinated by parents and Core Team members. Contact Carol Kunkel , 842-7777 ext. 109 .

 Youth Ministry Adult Leadership
An Adult Leadership Team is being formed to help with planning, scheduling, guiding plans for youth in the parish. Contact Kelly Wiseman, Pastoral Council liaison, 782-0148, or Carol Kunkel, youth coordinator, 842-7777 ext. 109.

TEC (Teens Encounter Christ)
Weekend spiritual retreat for teens. Held several times a year throughout the diocese. Watch bulletin for times and dates. Contact Carol Kunkel, 842-7777 ext. 109.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL

St. Joseph Interparochial School
Serves both Holy Spirit and St. Joseph parishes, grades K through 8, and provides instruction in the Catholic faith as well as secular academic subjects. Preschool and after-school programs are also offered. Early registration is important! COMMUNICATION MINISTRIES

Communications Committee
The Communications Committee works to strengthen communications in the parish and community through the bulletin, picture directory, parish ministry directory, quarterly Breath of the Spirit newsletter, web site, advertising, publicity and special projects. The committee meets 6-8 times a year and is open to new ideas and members as it serves the parish and its ministries. Parish Newsletter Team
The Breath of the Spirit, with news and stories about parish ministries and activities, is mailed quarterly to all parishioners. Community Spirit Committee
The Community Spirit Committee is always looking for parishioners to help coordinate annual activities, such as Parish Pentecost Picnic, Epiphany Pot Luck, Easter Vigil Reception, Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch, and Newcomer Dinners, as well as additional socials, outings, sporting events, receptions, pot lucks, trips, etc. planned to enhance and enliven the spirit of our community. Sunday Coffee And Donuts

 Welcome Newcomers Committee
Parishioners call and visit newcomers to the parish to welcome them and provide information about Holy Spirit and the community. Contact Lois Schwitzgebel, 781-9652.


Catholic Women’s Organization (CWO)
The CWO promotes friendship and spiritual growth for its members as well as helping others through charitable works. Meets third Tuesday beginning with 6:00 p.m. Liturgy of the word with Communion Service, followed by a meeting in the Parish Hall. All women are welcome! Contact Judy Liscomb, 781-5726.

Men’s Softball Team
Men of the parish, including non-Catholic spouses, field a Holy Spirit team playing in a summer church league. Contact Greg Kunkel, 746-6607.
Over 50 Group
Provides time for sharing and visiting for anyone “over 50.” Group meets for a potluck luncheon and usually a program the second Wednesday of each month (except June or July). Contact Shirley or Dick Jakel, 842-6872 or Father Jerry 842-7777.

Family Life Committee
Acts as an advocate for family life in the parish and community; identifies needs, plans and collaborates with other groups/ committees; supports and sponsors activities for parents, couples and families in the parish. Married Couples Groups
Couples, (or couples with children), are invited annually to form new “couples groups”, to get together to share their faith journey. Groups plan their own activities, such as prayer, educational or religious programs, socials, and service activities. Resources provided by parish. Child-care is available for activities at church.

 Marriage Enrichment

Celebrate Your Marriage
Mass and renewal of marriage vows is followed by a social. A committee plans and coordinates this celebration, which is held annually. Contact Lori Lewis, pastoral associate, 842-7777.  
Marriage Preparation Sponsor Couples
As part of the marriage preparation program, engaged couples may meet with a married couple in the parish for four/five sessions and discuss aspects of married life. Training is provided. Contact Lynn and Bob Austin 842-8001, or Fr. Jerry Riner, pastor, 842-7777.

DivorceCare
Participants meet regularly for discussion/support program on issues facing a divorced or separated Catholic. Newcomers always welcome. Facilitator Mary Lou Kirby, 901-0106.

Ministry with Persons Seeking an Invalidity of Marriage
The Church offers persons who have suffered the pain of marital breakdown, who are divorced and seeking freedom to marry in the Catholic Church, the opportunity for healing and reconciliation as well as the process of petitioning the Marriage Tribunal for a declaration of nullity. Annual seminar is conducted by the Diocesan Tribunal Staff, and the pastoral team is available to explain the Invalidity of Marriage processes and discuss your particular situation. Contact Fr. Financial Peace University
Dave Ramsey's 13-wk course is offered 1-2 times a year to the community. It is designed to offer financial advice from budgeting to building wealth for singles and couples enhancing their financial future. Childcare available. Contact Todd Conway, 782-6715.

Focus on Mom's Spirit
A ministry dedicated to mothers with children of all ages. This fellowship of women meets on Thursday evenings monthly to explore issues and topics of interest to parents and moms, from health to cooking and from parenting to craft making. Contact Alanna McAllister, 781-0966.

Parenting Programs
Parenting programs developed and conducted throughout the year in cooperation with the Adult Faith Formation Team. Contact Lori Lewis, pastoral associate, 842-7777 or Nick Noble, 843-8714.

Baptism Preparation Team
Prior to the baptism of infants, parents are invited to participate in baptismal formation, which includes a pastoral interview with the pastoral team and a group session with a team of couples. Contact Debbie and Todd Conway, 782-6715.

Parents of Infants Ministry (Parent Letters)
Parish sends “Parent Letters” at regular intervals for three years to parents following birth/baptism of child. These letters include ideas, suggestions and prayers to support parents in their role as Christian parents. Contact Crystal Halida, 783-0306.

Meals for Moms
Parishioners prepare and deliver meals to families with newborns. If you want to help, or if you just had a baby, call Danissa Lewis, 846-3020, or Leya Carstensen, 780-6150.

Bereavement Ministry
One-on-one ministry with those who have lost loved ones; coordinates and hosts the All Souls Day liturgy and reception, monthly grief groups and other programs as needs or interests are identified. Contact Carolyn Baseheart, 782-0277.

Funeral Meals
Parishioners prepare and serve a meal in the parish hall following a funeral. Parishioners can bring food or help set up and clean up. Contact Debbie Cook, 781-0445 or Tanya Gries, 782-0727.

Friendship Club (For Widows)
Widows meet for friendship, and social trips. Activities planned by the group. Contact Del-Rae Allen, 843-6015.

Parish Nursing Ministry
Parish nurses do not do traditional “hands on” nursing but share their time and talents reaching out in compassionate service to members of the parish community to provide health education (CPR, First Aid, Health Fairs) flu shots, blood pressure checks, and healing prayer services. Nurses Healing Prayer Team
Nurses, trained in leading prayer with individuals and groups, are available monthly (days and time announced in bulletin) to pray with anyone seeking prayers for healing of chronic illness, sickness, or in preparation for surgery. Blood Pressure Team
Nurses take blood pressure of interested parishioners after all Masses one weekend a month. Contact Angie Hines, 783-9183.

CPR Training
Training is offered twice a year by a certified instructor, contact Sandy Stahl, 781-1790.






LITURGY AND MUSIC MINISTRIES

Liturgy Core Group
This group consists of twelve to fifteen people representing various Liturgical ministries, in addition to interested parishioners, the pastor, pastoral associate and director of music and liturgy. The group meets monthly to set goals, direction and standards for the overall liturgical life of the parish. Liturgy Planning Team
The Liturgy Planning Team is a sub-committee of the Liturgy Core Group and is responsible for planning the parish liturgies for Sundays, Holy Days and other special services such as the Easter Triduum, parish prayer, and Reconciliation services. The team is composed of the pastor, pastoral associate and director of music and liturgy. Contact: Dana Gensler, 842-7777.

Eucharistic Ministers
Members of the parish are commissioned by the pastor to assist in ministering the Eucharist at Mass. Trainings are held several times each year. Commitment is based on a rotational schedule. Contact Mary Ellen Krohn, 782-8170.



Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick (Ministers of Care)
Eucharistic Ministers take communion to the sick and homebound on Fridays at 9:00 a.m. and on Sundays after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. If you desire a Eucharistic Minister to come to your home, or to help with this ministry,

Lectors
Men and women, Youth and Adults, who proclaim the Word of God to the community present at the Eucharist and other Liturgical Celebrations. Lector training held at least twice a year, or as needed. Contact: Rina Malmquist, 846-0132.

Altar Servers
Girls and boys, women and men, (4 th grade and older) are invited to serve the altar during Mass. Training is provided. Commitment is based on a rotational schedule. Contact: Billy Mills, 783-0539.

Ministers of Parish Hospitality

Prepare Prayers of the Faithful

Liturgical Art and Environment Ministry
Members of this ministry are committed to the worship environment for all liturgical seasons and celebrations, through quality and appropriate décor. Commitment: flexible. Sacristan Ministry

Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Children in grades one through three are led from the 9:30 a.m. Mass to rooms F/G in the parish center for the Children’s Liturgy of the Word; scriptures are proclaimed and discussed; psalms and acclamations are sung; and the creed and general intercessions are prayed. They return to Mass to sit with their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Children’s Liturgy of the word is held for children 3-5 years old on holidays and during the summer. Music Ministries

Holy Spirit’s Music Ministry offers many ways to participate in the liturgy through song and praise. The music ministry seeks musicians (vocalists and instrumentalists) for a parish resource list. In addition to the choirs and musical ensembles available for all age groups, musicians are needed for other special events such as parish prayer, Vacation Bible School and other para-liturgical celebrations. Cantor Ministry
Cantors work with the accompanist to lead the assembly in sung prayer, and proclaim the Word through the responsorial Psalm. Cantors are needed for all weekend and Holy Day liturgies. A willingness to grow in faith and an understanding of the importance of prayerful presence to the assembly is foundational. Parish cantors meet to consider their ministry and build musical skills. Holy Spirit Festival Choir
The Festival Choir welcomes all vocalists, youth and adult. The choir prepares for parish liturgical celebrations including: Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter Vigil, Easter, Pentecost and other designated liturgies throughout the year. Women’s Choir
This women’s choral ensemble performs a diverse and challenging repertoire that spans from great choral literature of the past to modern arrangements of contemporary Christian music. Women of all ages are welcome! Contact: Dana Gensler.

“Fire By Night” (Youth Choir)

“Joyful Noise Singers” (Children’s Choir)

Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument, consider sharing your talent with the parish community on an occasional or seasonal basis. Perfection is not expected. A willingness to assist the parish at prayer with the additional sounds of strings, brass, winds, organ, piano or percussion brings great personal satisfaction. We will work with you! Social Concerns Committee

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Groups

Al-Anon Group

 Blood Mobile
In cooperation with the Red Cross, a blood drive is held twice a year at Holy Spirit and twice a year at the Knights of Columbus. Volunteers needed to help; donors needed to give blood! Contact Stephanie West, 782-3505.


Habitat For Humanity
Parishioners volunteer to help build houses. Carpenters, painters, helpers of all kinds work at the building site. Contact Charlie Gries, 782-0727.

Interfaith Meals
Volunteers from five churches take turns providing nourishing meals Saturdays at St. Joe’s starting at 8:00 a.m. Holy Spirit parishioners volunteer about every six weeks. Contact Janie Pitcock, 842-5227.


Jail Ministry
People willing to be trained to lead group prayer in jail on Sunday, 3-4 p.m. (women) and 6:30-7:30 p.m. (men). Contact Fr. Jerry Riney, pastor 842-7777.


Legion of Mary
Promotes the sanctification of members through prayer and active works for the glory of God through Mary and the Church, particularly through visiting hospitals, nursing homes, shut-ins, new parishioners, etc. Mary, Star of Evangelization, Presidium meets each Monday after 8:00 a.m. mass in room A; Contact Gladys Faller 781-6849.


Prayer Chain
The purpose of the prayer chain is to use the mighty power of intercessory prayer whenever there is a need, a problem or trouble in the lives of parishioners, their families, friends and our community. Contact Tanya Gries, 782-0727.

Ministry of Praise: A Ministry for the Sick and Homebound
The Ministry of Praise is a ministry of prayer. It is for those in our parish community who cannot fully participate in the sacramental and day-to-day faith life of our parish family. This ministry is for the homebound, sick and any of our faithful who feel the need to be involved but cannot come and physically participate. Those involved are given a book of prayer and an olive wood cross that they are to wear; they are asked to pray daily for the needs of our parish, our community and our world. Knights Of Columbus
A fraternal order of Catholic men who provide support for the Church and various charities. Meets second Tuesday of each month at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Contact Chuck Glaser, Grand Knight, 563-9954.


Knights Of Columbus Fourth Degree
The Father Alexander Korte Assembly No 2331 fosters patriotism and provides color guards for religious and civic functions. Meets third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Contact Gabe Cabral, Faithful Navigator, 846-4845.

St. Vincent De Paul Store
Provides emergency aid to the needy, such as food, clothing, utility payment assistance, etc. as well as the spiritual development of its members. On the first Sunday of each month, members of Society of St. Vincent de Paul collect money at the doors of the church for the needy of Bowling Green/Warren County. Contact Tim Eckley, 781-1715. St. Joseph’s Cemetery Committee
Oversees the upkeep and maintenance of the Catholic cemetery located behind Fairview Cemetery off of Cemetery Road. To volunteer, or for information regarding a lot, contact Gene Faller, 781-6849.

Transportation To Mass

Provide Emergency Help and Meals
